FSSC 22000 V4.1

FSSC version 4.1 was published on 21 July 2017. From 1 January 2018, The requirements of the FSSC 22000 certification exists of 3 elements:
· ISO 22000 standard
· Pre-requisite program
· Additional requirements
Significant change is the additional requirements. In FSSC version 3, only 4 additional requirements were defined; in FSSC version 4.1. up to 9 additional requirements are defined. The details of these requirements can be found in Part II paragraph 2.14. of the FSSC 22000 scheme documents. It is highly recommended to review this in detail. A few eye-catching requirements are explained below.
Subject of these new requirements is product labelling at which the organization shall ensure that the finished product is labelled according to the applicable food regulations in the country of intended sale. This requirement extends to food regulations and not only to food safety regulations in the country of destination.
New in the FSSC 22000 v4.1 standard are the requirements about food fraud and in a less extend food defence. For both subjects, it is mandated to have a documented and implemented threat and vulnerability assessment. Based on the outcome of this assessment, the company shall put in place appropriate control measures to reduce or eliminate the identified threats/ vulnerability. A food defence and food fraud prevention shall be developed including policies, procedures and records.
Last one to mention is the environmental monitoring. A company shall ensure that an environmental monitoring program is in place to verify the effectiveness for cleaning and sanitation programs which shall meet the verification requirements as describe in ISO 22000. This monitoring program shall incorporate the hygienic condition of walls, floors, equipment etc.
